1916 Order of St. George Russian Faberge Egg

Beautiful strawberry red, green and golden enamel colors are intervened to produce this Royal Russian egg. The golden framed quartz clock at the center is surrounded by ribbon. The egg opens up horizontally where the green ribbon passes through the middle of the egg to be used as a storage of little treasures. The egg stands on a golden 3 legged holder.

History: Made during World War I, the Order of St. George egg commemorates the Order of St. George that was awarded to Emperor Nicholas and his son, the Grand Duke Alexei. The Order of St. George egg was inherited by Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia and after her death in 1960 was sold at Sotheby's for the equivalent of $30,910 to the Royal Russian Company. In 2004 it was sold as part of Forbes Collection to Viktor Vekselberg.
