History: The Coronation Egg from 1897 is the most famous and celebrated of Carl Peter creations.
It was made to honor the Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra coronation ceremony. The surprise concealed in the egg is a removable replica of the Imperial coach used by Alexandra on her entry into Moscow to her coronation at the Uspensky Cathedral.
The egg was displayed in the Empress' apartment at the Winter Palace. Upon the fall of the Romanov dynasty, the egg was confiscated by the Provisional Government in 1917. It was then dispatched to the Kremlin and finally transferred to the Sovnarkom in 1922 for sale. The official selling price of the Coronation Egg to Vekselberg was never publicly disclosed by Sotheby's, fueling much speculation. However, CNN reported the day after the sale that "...it was a very serious offer that the Forbes family accepted." The price of the Coronation Egg was estimated at $24 million.

Fabrege's masterpiece February 7, 2014

The Coronation Egg is considered by many to be Faberge's masterpiece. Based on the Tsarina's robes for the coronation form the bases of the detail on this egg. Having seen the original robes it is an excellent representation

This egg is so wonderfully duplicated down to every detail. The royal coach is so beautiful. Even though these eggs are replicas the workmanship is beyond compare

Reviewer: Sylvie C Boislard from Québec, Canada
I'm an egg collector.  I have over 300 different eggs, small collections. I've been collecting for only 6 months.   Of course I needed the Coronation Egg in my collection.  It gave a nice look on my display and people are really interest of it's history. Hope one day to be able to get "The hen egg"
