Inspired by the historic 1901 Gatchina Palace Imperial Egg created by master workman Mikhail Perkhin for Tsar Nicholas II, this design commemorates the Easter gift presented to his mother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna. The original masterpiece was crafted from gold, enamel, diamonds, silver gilt, rock crystal, and seed pearls, showcasing exceptional detail and refined decorative artistry.

The celebrated surprise inside was a removable miniature gold replica of the Gatchina Palace, one of the Empress’s favorite residences. The tiny architectural model included intricate elements such as cannons, a flag, and a statue of Emperor Paul I, demonstrating extraordinary craftsmanship. The exterior featured translucent guilloché enamel panels and portrait diamonds, reflecting the elegance of Imperial design.

After remaining in imperial residences until 1917, the original egg was later sold and eventually acquired by Henry Walters in 1930, and it is now housed in the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
