Inspired by the celebrated 1904 Kelch Chanticleer Egg, this design reflects one of the most elaborate jeweled clock automaton creations of the early twentieth century. The historic masterpiece was commissioned by industrialist Alexander Kelch for his wife, Barbara Kelch-Bazanova, and was crafted in the workshop of master workman Michael Perchin. It was one of seven distinguished “Kelch eggs,” renowned for their exceptional artistry and mechanical sophistication.

The original example functioned as a clock and featured translucent enamel over an intricate guilloché ground, accented with gold laurel swags, ribbon motifs, and pearl borders. Its most remarkable feature was a mechanical rooster automaton that emerged, flapped its wings, and crowed on the hour — demonstrating extraordinary technical precision and decorative brilliance.

Echoing that grand tradition, this elegant interpretation incorporates a working clock within the enameled shell, combining timekeeping with ornamental beauty.
