The Hen Egg is the first in a series of fifty-two jeweled eggs made under the supervision of Peter Carl Faberge for the Russian royal family.
It was crafted and delivered in 1885 to the then-Tsar of Russia, Alexander III. The Tsarina and tsar enjoyed the egg so much that Alexander III ordered a new egg from Carl Peter Faberge for his wife, each subsequent Easter.
The crafting of the first Imperial egg is attributed to Erik Kollin of Faberge's shop. The egg is made of gold, completely coated with opaque white enamel to look like a real eggshell. A thin band of gold where the two halves of the shell are joined is visible around the middle of the egg. The two halves of the outer shell fit together in a bayonet-style fitting which opens when twisted to reveal the surprise.
- egg purchase
I bought this as a Christmas present.
I bought this egg after a few months of wanting to add it to my collection. Easily the most beautiful and fun trinket box I own.
This was my first egg purchase. I was a little hesitant on the purchase cause it was not ture to the original in color and texture. But when i got my egg i was in amazed of how stunningly the egg is. Im so happy I did pull the trigger and make the purchase. Now I am hooked and cant wait to add more to my collection.
This quality item arrived promptly and well packaged. It made a great gift for my collector wife. Thanks!
Anyone collecting Faberge repros needs this egg. It being Tsarina Maria Feodorovna’s first egg, it is a crucial part of the Faberge history! The egg is well crafted and weighs quite a bit. It’s pleasing to look at and hold too! If you want to collect Faberge egg repros, this needs to be on your shopping list. You’ll love it as I do!
This egg is essential to own if you are a collector of reproduction Faberge items. It was the first egg that started it all! The egg is silver, not white like the original, and it is textured unlike the original. I think this is ok though because while it is a historic reproduction, most of us enjoy the textured and shiny feel to these eggs and so I think the designers Chan be d it just enough to appease the modern buyer while retaining the original 1885 look. The egg is quite heavy which I love! It also has a very pleasing shape to it! The faux fur interior is applied nicely and is so soft and it gently nestled the yellow yolk of the inner egg. The little hen inside is so delicately detailed and pretty! This was my first egg over $50 and so I had some buyers remorse while waiting for its arrival, but when it got to me all that went out the window and I felt that I bought a gorgeous piece of art. It is art you know, they may be reproductions, or “inspired-by’s”, but they were carefully crafted in their own right and each egg is its own art piece. So everyone buying one is making an art purchase! Side note, I was also very pleased with the big red monogrammed box it came in nestled in blue satin. Lovely presentation!
Bestpysanky always surprise, never disappoint.
My grandson was thrilled to receive the 1885 Hen Royal Russian Egg for his High School Graduation Gift. He has just begun to have an interest in collecting Russian Eggs and this was one of his favorites. It was elegant.
I have about 18 of their eggs through the years. This is made well. But what I dislike about it, is the cotton interior and the silver outside. For the price I thought it would be better. But every collection needs the hen egg so I bought it.
A "Must Have" for any Fabergé repro collection. This charming egg started it all. Nicholas was about 17 when his father Tsar Alexander presented this egg to his mother, and an Easter tradition began. No wonder. The royal kids were probably enthralled. This reproduction here is as true as any commoner can get to the original. It is hefty and substantial in weight and quality. Nicely crafted. The hidden hen is delicate and functional. You can hide an additional trinket. This egg is amazing and worth the price.
Beautiful, just as expected and arrived wuickly
Ingenious and decorative.
I LOVE all my Faberge eggs from BestPysanky, including the latest ones. I have several on display on a coffee table and an entire shelf full in the bookcases in my living room, as well as a few on other tables. I am very happy with all of them.
Gave to my cousin for Easter. She loved it!! Beautifully made and authentic looking. Quite a surprise!
