When Tsar Nicholas and Alexandra Feodorovna married in 1894 the homesick young bride missed the roses in her homeland country, there was a famous rose garden called Rosenhohe. The Rosebud egg is a jeweled enameled Easter egg made by Michael Perchin under the supervision of the Peter Carl in 1895. It was an ideal gift for Nicholas to give to his adored wife for their first Easter together.
Yellow roses were the most valued ones in the Empress' native Germany. The egg opens like a bonbonniere to reveal a yellow- enameled rosebud. In 1917 the egg was confiscated by the Russian Government and later sold to the jewelers Wartski around 1927. In 2004 it was sold as part of the Forbes Collection to Vekselberg who purchased some nine Imperial eggs from the collection, for $100 million
